Public property to be alcohol free (Del Mar)

DEL MAR — Alcohol will be prohibited on all public property here during the July 4th weekend, from 6 p.m. today until 6 p.m. Monday.
The ordinance, which was adopted in response to alcohol-related problems in previous years, covers the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on public beaches, sidewalks and parking lots.
Sheriff’s deputies will try to enforce the ban through voluntary compliance but are authorized to arrest people who refuse a request to dispose of alcoholic beverages.
A first offense is punishable by a $100 fine, and subsequent violations are $200 and $500.
