Cops boost enforcement for spring-break period

SAN DIEGO — With tens of thousands of visitors expected at San Diego city beaches over spring-break vacation, police yesterday started special enforcement activity in Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and La Jolla through April 8.
Officers will work uniformed and plainclothes assignments throughout the three-week period, Capt. Boyd Long announced.
Visitors were reminded to expect parking lots to be near capacity during the period and to expect traffic delays.
Also, alcohol can be consumed on the sand only between noon and 8 p.m., and glass is not allowed at any time.
Fencing off or roping off areas to save them is not prohibited. Fire rings cannot be used after midnight. Furniture, other than lawn chairs, on the beach or park area also is prohibited.
Smoking is not allowed on the beach, the bay or in parks.
