SAN DIEGO — San Diego Councilman Kevin Faulconer’s Beach Alcohol Task Force will meet Monday evening for the last time to debate whether drinking should be banned on Ocean Beach between the pier and lifeguard tower.
The advisory panel will discuss the proposed alcohol-free “family zone” in Ocean Beach at 7 p.m. at the Ocean Beach Masonic Center, 1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd.
The 14-member task force spent eight months soliciting public input. Last month it made 22 relatively modest alcohol- and litter- control recommendations for Faulconer to pursue but deadlocked on divisive questions of whether to ban drinking on the Fourth of July or year-round at Mission Beach, Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach.
Proponents of an alcohol-free zone in Ocean Beach say similar restrictions could be imposed in problem areas of Mission Beach and Pacific Beach.
