DUI checkpoint yields eight arrests

IMPERIAL BEACH — Sheriff’s deputies arrested seven motorists on suspicion of drunken driving during a six-hour DUI checkpoint Friday night and Saturday morning in Imperial Beach.
They also arrested one other driver on suspicion of drug possession and impounded 11 vehicles.
Deputies contacted 910 motorists during the operation, which began at 9 p.m. Friday on Palm Avenue near 10th Street.
It was funded by a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said Sgt. Jose Sanchez of the Sheriff’s Department.
