Drunk passed out on my front door – and it’s only 4:45pm
September 8, 2007 No CommentsI was helping a neighbor move a sofa into his apartment just now. A woman came walking by my place staggering pretty heavily. She had a seat on my front step and I asked her if she was alright. She was mumbling incoherently. I asked her if she wanted a glass of water – my thinking she was feeling faint. Then I went back inside my place. After she knocked her head on my door a few times I called 911. They connected me to the Emergency Medical people, who in turn dispatched an ambulance.
The ambulance came, gave her a blood-sugar test and interviewed her. They had just seen her getting into a cab by the Fire Station a half-hour earlier. She didn’t make it very far as I’m only a few blocks from the Fire Station. They determined she was heavily drunk as she declared that she had an ‘awful lot’ to drink. So they called for Police to check her out. The paramedics called her mom after she declared that she just wanted to go home. Note, she’s about 45 years old and had told me she lived downtown. The paramedics called mom who initially said to let the police take her to detox. Then the parents changed their mind and offered to come pick her up. After repeated warnings by the officer for her to keep quiet – as she kept rambling and calling them names – they decided to take her to detox anyway.
Just another day in PB for me. Another story for me to tell the Community Court participants.
