Sergeant’s shot misses; man with gun arrested
January 26, 2008 No CommentsA San Diego police sergeant shot at a man who allegedly pointed a gun at him Saturday night. The officer’s bullet missed, and the man was arrested. No one was injured.
About 10:30 p.m., the sergeant was driving east on Grand Avenue near Jewel Street when he heard several gunshots, then spotted two men walking east, police said.
As the sergeant stopped near the pair, he saw one man pass something to the other, police said. The sergeant got out of his car and saw one of the men turn west and point a handgun down the street.
Police said the sergeant ordered the man to drop the gun. The man instead spun around and turned the weapon toward the sergeant, who fired and missed, police said.
The man, 22, dropped the gun and was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and possession of a loaded firearm.
The other man, 31, walked away during the shooting and was found at 12:30 a.m. by a police dog hiding behind bushes a block away on Grand Avenue. He was arrested on suspicion of reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm.
