Multi-Agency effort cracks down on popular party spots
San Diego Police arrested 51 drivers in Pacific Beach Saturday for driving under the influence.
Two checkpoints were set up in PB. One on the 2600 block of Ingraham St. and the other simultaneously at 2400 Grand Ave., according to a statement from the San Diego Police Department.
Of the 870 vehicles that passed through the Ingraham St. location, 34 drivers were detained for further evaluation and police eventually arrested 19 of the drivers.
A female driver attempted to escape the checkpoint on Ingraham St, but was stopped after officers utilized a spike strip. She was later arrested for driving under the influence.
Six additional drivers were arrested for DUI by patrol cars throughout the area.
At the Grand Ave. checkpoint, police arrested 26 drivers for driving under the influence. At both locations, 62 vehicles were impounded.
The checkpoints were paid for by state grants.
