DUI Driver Strikes Police Car – Officer Rushed to Hospital
September 25, 2011 No Comments
A San Diego police officer was taken to the hospital by ambulance at approximately 2am this morning after his patrol car was struck from behind by a DUI driver. The DUI driver was interviewed and given field sobriety tests and after failing, was arrested. At the time of this post we do not know the status of the officer’s medical condition.
Here’s the more extended video:
In 2010 Pacific Beach had more drunk driving arrests than North Park, Hillcrest, East Village and Gaslamp… combined, and typically averaging 600 arrests each year. Just two weeks ago, Pacific Beach area DUI checkpoints netted 45 drivers.
San Diegans should be concerned because they are paying for the abnormal level of police, fire-rescue, hospital, and court costs to subsidize irresponsible bars and restaurants that over serve their patrons. The Pacific Beach Planning Group and many others are asking the City Council to consider a Conditional Use Permit with an enforcement mechanism–allowing the city to regulate alcohol licensing decisions, currently made by the state ABC, as well as oversee sufficient levels of enforcement locally.
Cleaning up Pacific Beach, and the greater San Diego alcohol-outlet licensing and enforcement problems is good for business, good for tourism and good for all San Diegans.
